This gorgeous 19th-century racing yacht, America, was designed by George Steers for Commodore John Cox Stevens. It was named after the first international sailing trophy it won, the America’s Cup. America captured the ‘One Hundred Sovereign Cup’ by 20 minutes in 1851. Queen Victoria was reported to ask who was second, the famous answer being: “Ah, Your Majesty, there is no second”.
This hand crafted America yacht model comes fully assembled in cedarwood and clear varnish. It is built using a plank on frame method according to scale through original plans and features intricate handmade details such as three large sails with detailed stitching, two masts, front bowsprit, riggings, and a metal nameplate embedded with “America 1851”. No assembly required, this model sail boat arrives ready to display.
